You found a gun, now what?
First things first: Do not panic.
You must keep your wits about you and having an unreasoned response to
fear (panic) is among the worst things you can do. So, do not panic!
Irrational fear of a deadly weapon is widespread and must be replaced by
respect and proper behavior when in the presence of the weapon in order
to prevent injury or property damage.

A gun, just like a kitchen knife, baseball bat, tennis racquet, golf
club or a hammer is not dangerous in and of itself. All of these are
inanimate objects and cannot hurt you or anyone else unless touched by a
person or moved by an external force. Therefore, if you encounter a gun
that is in the corner of an closet, on a table, in a clothes drawer,
under a bed or in a travel case, there is no rational basis for fear, as
long as no one touches it.
Guns will not "just go off" by themselves, if left undisturbed. This
simply cannot happen. A firearm could be allowed to sit for a hundred
years, and as long as no one willfully fires it (by pulling the
trigger), nothing will happen.
