Important note: Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, New Hampshire, South Carolina and West Virginia will honor the FLCCW license only if the licensee is a resident of Florida. All 27 of the other states in the list will honor the FLCCW license even if you are not a resident of Florida.

CLASS FAQ

What are the clinic dates/times/locations?

Clinic dates, times and locations are listed on the OurSafeHome.net Clinic page. They are usually on weeknights, after normal working hours. (Weekend clinics are available, too. If you wish, you can put together your own group for a custom clinic at a location and time of your choosing, contact us to discuss this option by clicking here.) Clinics begin promptly at their scheduled time, please be sure to arrive a few minutes before the start time and get ready to have fun!

Do I need to be a good shot?

Of course not! OurSafeHome.net "Fundamentals" and "Florida Carry Concealed Weapons License" clinics are aimed at entry-level participants. The online courses prepare you intellectually for learning how to operate an appropriate self-defense weapon, the clinic develops your skills. You will be safely and carefully guided through the first steps by a highly qualified instructor who will take time to answer every clinic related question you may have. Our "coaching" method of instruction is why so many female (and male) first time shooters have great success at the OurSafeHome.net Clinics. No "Boot Camp Drill Instructors" are allowed on an OurSafeHome.net firing line!

Can I just show up at a clinic?

Absolutely not. You must complete an OurSafeHome.net online course before the clinic begins. You must also pre-register for the particular clinic you wish to attend. Completion of the online course is required for all participants as it allows us to proceed right to the "fun stuff" with minimal delay. No boring lectures or slide shows to sit through!

What is the instructor to student ratio?

OurSafeHome.net maintains a 6:1 instructor to student ratio, in keeping with nationally established standards.

Are clinics really segregated by gender?

Yes. Twenty-five years of teaching people to shoot has hammered home the fact that mixed gender instruction (almost) never works. While God created all men (and women), and Sam Colt made them equal, the fact is that men and women learn differently. OurSafeHome.net instructors must use slightly different techniques when teaching a men's clinic than they do when teaching a women's clinic.

What do I need to bring?

You really do not have to bring anything. All equipment and supplies can be purchased or rented on-site at an OurSafeHome.net Clinic. If you prefer you may want to bring your own: Safety-goggles, ear-plugs and ear-muffs. Please consider wearing a "crew-neck" type shirt that does not have a collar. Ladies, do not wear a "v-neck" type of shirt (you will find out why in the online course). We recommend that you wear comfortable "running-type" shoes and no dangling jewelry.

Can I bring my own weapon?

If you are enrolled in a "Fundamentals" clinic, you may bring your own weapon if, and only if it is a .38 Special/.357 Magnum double action revolver with a barrel that is at least three inches long. The weapon must be handled in accordance with The 4 Rules and the rules of the facility where the OurSafeHome.net clinic takes place must be obeyed at all times.
